Football Betting System – How Does Asian Handicap Betting Work
Asian Handicap is a special type of betting handicap. In this betting pattern, it removes the draw option from the equation, thus increasing the number of outcomes from three to two, which also implies that the odds of winning on a single bet have increased from 33.3 % to 50%. The bookmarkers designate a handicap for the weakest team in the match in order to bring the odds so that each team has approximately the same chance of winning.
The system looks strange, but it’s not difficult if you know the trick! It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
A. Single Handicap
The Single Handicap is normally written in the following formats:
Type 1
Sunderland (-0.5,-0.5) 1.925
Birmingham (+0.5,+0.5) 1.975
Type 2
Sunderland (-0.5) 1.925
Birmingham (+0.5) 1.975
Type 3
Sunderland (-1/2) 1.925
Birmingham (+1/2) 1.975
The number in parentheses is the handicap designated by the bookmarkers and followed by the odds. In the example above, this means Sunderland are almost half a goal behind Birmingham at the start of the game. As the bettor, you choose either the favorite to overcome this handicap or the underdog to hold it.
Below are the different types of Asian Handicap you will see on the online betting system
I. Ball Handicap level
Level ball means that no handicap is assigned to each of the teams. You win your bet when the team you selected wins. If the match is drawn and there is no goal difference, your stake will be refunded.
Level Ball Handicap is displayed as below:
Sunderland (0.0) 1,925
Birmingham (0.0) 1.975
ii. Half-ball Handicap
Sunderland (-0.5) 1.975
Birmingham (+0.5) 1.925
The example above shows that Birmingham were given a 0.5 advantage against Sunderland (Birmingham +0.5). If you bet on Sunderland, you win at 1.9 if Sunderland wins the game. You lose the game if there is a draw or if Sunderland loses the game because Birmingham are almost half a goal ahead of Sunderland before the game starts.
The same technique applies to handicap one and a half (1.5). When betting on a -1.5 handicap, the favorite team must win by at least 2 goals. When betting on a +1.5 handicap, the underdog will win if the result is a draw, win or loss by one goal. Usually the -1.5 and -2.5 handicap odds are higher than the underdog odds because the risk is higher.
iii. Handicap at a goal
If you select -1.0 favorite, the team must win by at least 2 goals to win the bet. You will lose the bet if the less favored team wins or if the result is a draw. If the result is almost zero, it means that the favorite team wins by one goal, the stake will be refunded.
B. Double Handicap
Double Handicap, also called “quarter handicap” (0.25, 0.75, 1.25, etc.), is more complicated than Single Handicap, due to its split handicap technique. In double handicap bets, the stake is halved.
The Double Handicap can be displayed in different formats:
Type 1
Sunderland (0,-0.5) 1.95
Birmingham (0,+0.5) 1.95
Type 2
Sunderland (-0.75) 1.975
Birmingham (+0.75) 1.925
Type 3
Sunderland (-3/4) 1.975
Birmingham (+3/4) 1.925
For the handicap of the quarter, 0.25 is the average value of 0 and 0.5, 0.75 is the average of 0.5 and 1, 1.25 is the average of 1 and 1.5. In this case, your stake is actually halved with 2 separate handicap bets.
I. Level / Handicap half ball (handicap 1/4)
This can be displayed as:-
Sunderland (0,-0.5) 1.95
Birmingham (0,+0.5) 1.95
For example, if you bet on Sunderland, this means that half of your bet is on 0 and another half on -0.5. If the result is a draw, you will be refunded your first handicap (level handicap) but will lose the half-ball handicap. In short, you lose half the stake if the match is drawn.
To bet on your favorite team, you only win the bet if the favorite team wins, you will lose half of the stakes if the result is a draw, and will lose all of the stakes if the favorite team loses. To bet on the less favorite team, you will win the bet if the less favorite team wins, and win half if the result is a draw and lose if the less favorite team loses the match.
ii. Half-ball/one-ball handicap (3/4 handicap)
This can be displayed as:-
Sunderland (-0.5,-1) 2.00
Birmingham (+0.5,+1) 1.90
If you bet on Sunderland, you only win the bet if Sunderland win by 2 or more goals, if Sunderland win by one goal, half your stake (assuming you opt for a -0.5 handicap) is multiplied by 2.00 and the other half of the stakes will be returned. You will lose the bet if Birmingham win or draw.
Alternatively, if you bet on Birmingham, you will win if Birmingham wins. If Birmingham lose by one goal, you will lose half your stake (assuming you go for a +0.5 handicap) and lose the entire stake if Sunderland win by 2 or more goals.
