Discover Here the Magic of Correct Ball Position in Your Golf Swing, THIS is AMAZING!
It sounds like a little thing… ball position. It can be an easy thing to do right. But I have to tell you that almost all, and I mean all, weekend players pay little or no attention to the position of the ball.
If you could increase your distance off the tee, say 20.30 yards or more and hit it straighter, would you then give it some attention?
Let’s take this subject now and have a brief discussion. We will limit it to the tee shot.
I see people setting it up with their hands facing the target and their body bent in interesting ways. More often than not, the ball is set back in position, which creates a series of troublesome problems.
First of all, it’s almost impossible to properly line up with the target. Then it is absolutely impossible to get into a setup position that will allow the parts and pieces of your golf swing to move in the correct order. And then there’s that pesky weight change that no one seems to know how to do.
And not the last…….but close is the cursed chicken wing finish. You know what it looks like… don’t you?
These and many other problems in your golf swing are due to poor ball position.
Now off trail just a bit. A while ago I wrote an article about eye dominance and the importance of understanding it.
Although my understanding of this issue is not yet fully complete, I have found that most people have right eye dominant. While those with left eye dominance have a slightly different challenge in developing correct ball position setup, the principle for both is exactly the same.
And here’s the thing…you should always rely on your dominant eye to get the information right. It’s in terms of body alignment, seeing the line on the green, getting your body to react to the ball in a full golf swing, and so much more.
You should try not to confuse your mind with too much information that might conflict. If you allow the two eyes to fight each other while processing visual information, you will make physical adjustments that may not be correct.
One of these adjustments is ball position.
Here’s a good tip. Always make sure the ball is positioned well in front of your dominant eye with every golf swing you make. Always. Including putting.
And always allow your dominant eye to get the information and not the other eye. If you need to close one eye to get the line on the green or to line up on target on a longer shot… do it.
Return to the position of the ball on the tee.
I would like you all to try this……..not just once, but try it until you are comfortable doing it.
Next time you’re on the range or just on the course for a fun round, place the ball so it’s in front, toward the target, with your left foot…. .. for right-handed players .
Not on your left heel but in front of your left foot. You will feel like you can never hit the ball. But you will, trust me on that.
Most of you suffer from poor weight shifting, this will solve that problem.
Most of you have lousy ball position, this will fix that too.
Most of you have a chicken wing finish, this will fix that too.
Most of you find it difficult to stay behind this ball, this will solve the problem.
What will probably happen is that you will think you can’t do it and you won’t. Its good. But some of you will try it and work on it. And in doing so, you will discover a little magic.
1. You will get a great extension from the swing
2. You will get weight transfer
3. your swing speed at impact will be at its maximum.
4. you will be behind the ball at impact with a little effort
5. you’ll hit the ball a bit higher and get more airtime (a good thing)
6. you will hit your tee shot farther than before
7. and finally you will look much better than before even if you hit it like shit
The idea here is to force you to let the dominant eye stay behind the ball and allow information processing to benefit your golf swing. Once confusion sets in, there is no correction.
Seriously try this little tweak. Not everyone will or will be able to do this and go back to the old way, which is perfectly OK for me. It’s a game after all and if you’re happy, so am I
In closing, let me tell you about my own experience with this forward ball position idea. I am left eye dominant. I tended to play the ball further back than forward. I can’t say why I do it. I hit it pretty well, I shoot in the low 70s most of the time with a subpar surprise every now and then.
Still, I need some checks so I went to our pro club for a look. We talked about what I write here and now. I advanced the ball as the pro suggested based on my eye dominance.
I’ve played twice since that golf instruction…I’ve hit the ball off the tee straight off the button each time. That’s 14 times, hitting all fairways but one, and it was in a fairway trap, which I don’t mind.
And, get this, I hit the ball farther than I ever have more consistently. How far can you ask?
I average about 265 off the tee. I’m not a big hitter. But I hit the ball at least 10 meters further, and several were more than 25 meters away. One was well over 300 meters (with wind aid)
I thought this small change was a very impressive change. I had a tendency to overdo the position of the ball, in that on several shots I placed the thing well in front of my left foot. It didn’t seem to matter, except my final balance wasn’t so great. It was because I seemed to have to go further to reach where I had put the ball.
I shot a 72 and a 73 both days. In windy conditions and using a putter I was not in tune with.
I believe hitting the driver into the fairway is one of the most important strokes in golf, I don’t buy into the “drive to show putt for money” idea. If you’re not in the fairway, no matter how good or good your putt is, you’re probably bogeying or worse.
I’m done. Try that. It worked great for me, I’m thrilled with the results.
It felt like MAGIC
